TESLA BOT and the Future of Human Work

On August 20, 2021, Elon Musk announced that he would be producing a Tesla Bot. Robot in human form. Is he serious or is he just pranking us all? The idea is indeed a good one, because he made robots to replace humans in doing dangerous, repetitive and manual work. So that humans are not only protected from harm, but also can focus on doing something that has a higher edit value that only humans can do.

Why does it look like a Humanoid? and what is the impact on business? what is the impact on workers? The idea of robotization is not a new idea. Many have studied it and without realizing it, we are now living together with the robot in our work.

Is this good news or bad news for us? Let's immediately look at the studies and find out how we respond to this robotization?.

Start by looking at what's wrong with the Tesla Bot. Elon Musk said that this Tesla Bot was created to help carry out daily studies, which humans shouldn't have to do. Maybe low value, for example: we want to go shopping at the supermarket. We can tell the Tesla Bot to go to the supermarket, then buy rice, buy cooking oil, buy potatoes, then pay for it and bring the groceries home.

If that's all, there's actually a solution. We immediately take the cellphone, open the online application, then shop online and wait for the goods to be delivered to our house. That's possible! For example, if you want something a little more sophisticated, it's not humans who deliver it to your house, but drones. The point is that there is a solution now that is simpler, more effective, and cheaper. So why do we need a Tesla Bot just to do something like that?

The second that becomes a question, why humanoid? Do you think humanoid robots are proven to be effective? Elon said that the Tesla Bot was intended to replace humans doing work that was dangerous, repetitive, boring and that it was all very specific. If we need the help of a robot to do a specific job, then we should need a specific robot. Look at Tesla as an example of having a lot of robots in its factory. There are special robots for installing doors, special robots for installing dashboards, special robots for installing tires, painting cars and none of the robots at Tesla's factory are not humanoid, because they are ineffective if they are in human form. A good robot is a robot that was created specifically. The robot for painting car tires must be designed to make it easier to install tires.

The Tesla car is actually a robot. Robots that can transport us from one place to another without human intervention. Ordered to go to the office straight away we were escorted to the office to the lobby. For example, we need robots to clean the house. If his imagination imagines a robot like a human. Then he vacuumed our house. What are you doing! Why isn't the vacuum cleaner a robot that automatically cleans our homes without any human intervention?

Actually, without realizing it, we are already living side by side with robots. Work has also been assisted by robots, even though the robot is not like the Tesla Bot or maybe like the robot in the big Tesla factory. At work, meet the customer, then he conveys data information about himself and you enter it into your computer to verify the data. You click Enter then not long after that there is a verified text. Who does the verification? he is a robot. Actually the robot is the one who works behind the scenes to retrieve the data you input earlier. Then he matches the data from many databases, then concludes the suitability of the data to be verified.

It means that we actually work side by side with robots or for example in everyday life there are questions that are asked to a company, then you use the mobile application. He then uses the chat feature and you start asking questions, not long after that you get an answer if you ask again you get an answer again. Maybe the one who answers your chat is not a human but a robot called a Chatbot.

So, the robot has been among us the last few years. A very popular phrase among corporations is RPA (Robotic Process Automation). RPA is a software that can help humans to execute jobs that are repetitive, routine, manual which are done by the robot. So humans don't need to intervene. For example, data verification is part of a very simple RPA.

RPA can be so complex that much of the work that was once done by humans is now being taken over by machines. When the pandemic came, the company's digitization process accelerated, one of which was the process of moving routine, repetitive and manual jobs to be done by robots. What is happening now is that no one is asking when the robot will start to enter the workforce and slowly replace our work. Not when!, but it has happened. The question is how fast is it accelerated? this is what will happen in 2020 then compared to what will happen in 2025.

In almost all types of work, more will be taken over by machines and less done by humans. The next question is what kind of work has a great chance to be replaced by machines. Okay, friends, you can screenshot the image below, then read and think about whether your work is threatened or not.

kind of work has a great chance to be replaced by machines

Now let's look at the following chart from McKinsey:

50% of the work activities we do can technically be automated using current technology. 6 out of 10 jobs turned out to be 30 percent of activities that could indeed be automated. Furthermore, those 400 jobs will be replaced by machines with their automated processes, even if the adoption is faster, up to 800 million jobs will be replaced by machines. If you look at the OECD data, it is found that 14 percent of the jobs in the participating countries have a great chance to be replaced by machine automation. While 32 percent have a chance of half being replaced by machines.

Some are relaxed because they think that they will be replaced by seniors, who may have more repetitive, more manual work or who are not too savvy or adept at using technology. That's a wrong assumption! The OECD's findings are also worrying that robots will replace machines with automated processes, not only seniors but also juniors, including those who have just entered work.

How is that? It's not that those who have just entered work are people who are usually Technological Savvy, who are used to using technology, right? The answer is because people who have just entered work usually do manual work first, routine first, repetitive work first. When you just enter work, even young people who graduate from campus will be replaced with robots too. Interesting right!

It makes us panic, so robots have taken over our work and what will happen to humans later. created exceeds the number of jobs taken over by technology.

In the past, when computers were first introduced, people panicked at that time, they were worried that their jobs would be taken over by computers, but in reality, because of computers, new jobs have emerged, which previously didn't exist, so the same thing will happen with the computer. Robots will eventually replace some jobs and will open up new job opportunities, new professions, types of work that even now we can't even imagine.

Back to McKinsey's study, it was found that the demand for jobs in 2030 increased drastically because of the emergence of new technology, the lowest prediction was 21 percent, the highest prediction was 33 percent. What kind of work will the machine replace?

If we look at this data from the Future of Jobs Survey conducted by the World Economic forum, in this screenshot, I will not read it one by one, obviously, whether the professions of friends are currently on the list, which will be replaced, will decrease. Later the number or friends will actually be on the left side which will actually increase the demand and then you start to have to be able to prepare yourself, How do you do so that you can still be relevant and still needed by the industry when Robotics has become our daily life and is increasingly being adopted.

What do we really need to do? How do we respond to all of this, which is something that we can't avoid. We can't stop technology. Civilization can't be stopped, it will continue to roll forward, it's moving forward because we can't stop the presence of automation, Robotics, these smart machines, so we must first learn to work together with them. One second is that we must improve our capabilities. We who are robots can't do that, so when we have this new capability, our chances of having a high value or price in the labor market are still great because we are relevant to the times.

What skills are predicted to be really needed in the future, even now, the demand is already high and the demand is getting higher and higher. Let's see.

These are the 15 most needed skills in 2025 according to the World Economic forum, look at this and once again measure yourself about I have those skills or not. If you feel weak there, it's time, friends, to update yourself, train yourself. All friends, so that they have this skill set. So in conclusion, robots are good or bad for us. In my opinion, robots are good for us, why is it because, as Elon Musk said, robots can replace our work, which is dangerous, which is repetitive, which is routine, which is manual so that we have the time and energy to do other jobs that have a higher value.

top 15 skills for 2025
Look at the people who work in the company, how much time is allocated for work that can actually be done by robots or software. So that you can have aspirations to innovate, to get to know customers better, to organize something that would be good for the company but never have the time, maybe you want to learn, want to do side projects in the company to improve your capabilities but never have time because you are trapped in that job.

So if the work can finally be taken over by robots, by machines, by the automation process. Now for those of you who are entrepreneurs, if you have a lot of work that can be done by robots, by machines and automation, you will have more time to play with your family, right? maybe all this time the child's rights have been taken away by such a busy job. You can get that back. But of course it is good news if there is a condition that we are ready for a world that will be filled with robots, then now is the time for us to upgrade ourselves, forge ourselves, equip ourselves with abilities that only humans can do. Something that has a high value that robots can't do. Congratulations on developing yourself, forging yourself and winning in this era of robots, hopefully this article will benefit you.
